Elisabeth Woody

Berkeley, CA, USA

Owner of 11stories, Elisabeth works with clients to create custom-designed books that capture Life Stories and Love Stories. Your stories, in your words, alongside treasured photos, come together to create a beautiful book that is uniquely yours.

Elisabeth provides a unique service in that she creates both the book's content (through guided interviews) as well as the design and layout work (using InDesign in conjunction with Blurb’s ProLine printing options.)

As a professional personal historian, Elisabeth leads you through the interview experience to allow you to focus on the storytelling and not become overwhelmed by the process. For a Life Story book, topics include stories of childhood and family, education and career, reflections and lessons learned. For a Love Story book, Elisabeth interviews the couple together using a tandem interview style, capturing how they talk with each other, finish each other's sentences, and share their story. Elisabeth will often include interviews with family and friends to enhance life stories and love stories and bring a richness of voices to the book.

During the book design process, Elisabeth takes great care to select the right typeface to showcase your words and design the perfect layout to ensure readability and present your stories in a clean, elegant style. Elisabeth’s book designs include custom elements and incorporate your photos and other memorabilia (letters, wedding invitations, newspaper clippings, professional awards, etc.)

Clients come to 11stories for a variety of reasons. Many are looking for a unique gift to celebrate a special event – a birthday, retirement, wedding, or anniversary. Elisabeth loves to work with clients to create that perfect gift, and especially loves to help organize a surprise! Some work with us after they have tried to create a Life Story or Love Story book on their own, but have gotten stuck. Elisabeth also works with entrepreneurs and businesses looking to document their achievements and reflect on their company’s vision, and in the case of family businesses, to record a combined Family and Corporate History.

Elisabeth loves to help her clients record and share their story, and to create a beautiful, timeless book to be treasured with family and friends. Elisabeth holds a Masters from Harvard and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, where she was also a member of the faculty. She is an accomplished researcher and published author, and a member of the Association of Personal Historians. She works locally in the San Francisco Bay Area and worldwide through the wonders of Skype.
